Villa am Rupertsberg-City Archives & Abbey Arcades

The Hildegard monastery was largely destroyed 400 years ago, and after 1803 the site was always privately owned and the remains of the abbey were no longer open to the public. Thanks to the relocation of the city archives to the villa on Rupertsberg, the arcade of the former collegiate church can now be visited, and digital technology brings the lost Hildegard von Bingen monastery and the history of Rupertsberg to life.

‘The lift to the past’ – immerse yourself in the world of the monastery at the touch of a button

 ‘The lift to the past’ takes you right into the heart of the monastery, as it might have looked in the 12th or 13th century. First, you descend to the level of the church in the Middle Ages. With the help of a navigation panel, the visual tour can begin. First through the church, into the cloister and then out into the monastery courtyard? Or would you prefer to go straight up to the church tower to enjoy the view of medieval Bingen?

You can visit the ‘liftto the past’ as part of a visit to the Museum am Strom or with a single ticket purchased on site (€2).

Opening hours: Tuesday to Friday and Sunday from 2 p.m. to 5 p.m. Closed on public holidays.
