The town council in Bingen represents the citizens in the town, and consists of 36 elected councilors, with the mayor(ess) as the chairperson. The town council decides all matters concerning the town, unless the decisions have been transferred to the mayor(ess), and is responsible according to the law. The councilors are elected for a period of five years. The last election was in 2009.
