The history of Bingen

in the Historical Museum on the River – Hildegard von Bingen

Under the motto “Bingen – ein Brückenschlag durch zwei Jahrtausende” (Bingen – through 2,000 years) there is the history of the town, the development of which will be completed at the end of 2009. Four bridges at four different locations in the four epochs of the town’s history (The Romans, the Middle Ages and the early 19th century and the 20th century) show how Bingen enjoyed an especially important part in the transport system, which has always played an important role in the development of the town. There are models of the four bridges, and the exhibition is centered around them and leads visitors to see numerous original objects out of 2,000 years of the town’s history. It begins with the Roman department, which has been there since the summer of 2003. The exciting collection presents life in Roman PINGIUM, with all its various facets.
