At the location at the gateway to the World Heritage of the “Romantic Rhine Valley” there is the Museum on the River – Hildegard von Bingen. It is a suitable place to see 2.000 years of culture and history: from the entrance to the museum you can see the Mäuseturm (Mouse Tower), the Niederwald monument and the ruins of Ehrenfels Castle. It is only a short walk to the Rhein-Nahe-Eck (the junction of the rivers Rhine and Nahe) and to the ship moorings. The building, which was an electricity power station in 1898, has a late Romantic architecture and pays homage to the belief in progress in the days of the founders.

The Historical Museum on the River – Hildegard von Bingen consists of four permanent exhibitions:
The
Hildegard von Bingen exhibition is in the former machinery hall with a generous stage. The
surgical instruments are in a treasure chamber with columns. The
Rhine Romanticism in historical salons and galleries shows the enthusiasm for Rhine Romanticism in the 19th century. A permanent exhibition showing the
history of the town from its early beginnings to the present day has been created since 2002. The programme is completed with special exhibitions depicting regional and Middle-Rhine cultural history.
