Hildegard-Herbst

Since 1998 Bingen has organised the Hildegard Autumn around Hildegard’s date of death (17 September 1179). Within the last 10 years, the Hildegard Autumn has developed into a huge festival in Bingen’s cultural programme and is well-known –not only in Rheinland-Pfalz but also in the whole country.

For a week, scientists, Hildegard fans and visitors come close to the daughter of the town. In connection to the motto of the cultural summer in Rheinland-Pfalz the Hildegard Autumn involves scientific lectures, excursions and musical contributions. Theatrical performances and other events deal with the various aspects of her life. Thus the richness of her life – as abbess, scientist, musician, warner and the strong woman and healer – in short as a great personality in the Middle Ages and her timeless message for our present day.
