Rheinhessen – the sundrenched part of the country with 1,000 hills.
Rheinhessen is Germany’s largest winegrowing region, and also its oldest. As early as Roman days vines were cultivated. That is not surprising, because in terms of sunshine hours the region is one of warmest in the country. You can cycle from one vintner’s to the other. There are also rambling tours through fields of herbs in Rheinhessen Schweiz or the flowering gardens in all four seasons, and those are only a few offers for explorers.
But Rheinhessen also enjoys a variety of culture: the Gutenberg city of Mainz, Hildegard von Bingen and Rhine Romanticism, the Niberlungen story in Worms, the Kaiserpfalz (imperial palace) in Ingelheim and the town of Alzey, which are all a contrast to the rural cosiness in the many southern wine villages. You can discover culture everywhere, for example the Rheinhessen vaulted wine pubs, with jazz in the barn or art in a wine gallery.

Naheland
The Nahe meanders in a wild and romantic way with a length of 120 kilometres on the southern slopes of the Hunsrück and the North Pfalz hilly country, before it enters the Rhine at Bingen.
As sparkling as its precious gems there is the Edelsteinstsraße (precious gems street) with its main town of Idar-Oberstein. But not only are the precious gems attractive, there is also the so-called “black gold”, the slate in the Hunsrück to discover. The Hunsrück slate and castle road have a lot to offer. The baths in Nahe country are good for recuperation.

Naheland Touristik GmbH
Bad Kreuznach, Bad Münster am Stein-Ebernburg and Bad Sobernheim offer wellness, fitness and relaxation. All three of them. You can also be active in Nahe country. Nature not only gives the landscape its unique character, but is also a constant companion for cyclists, ramblers, those who do Nordic Walking or those who travel on a Draisinentour (Bogey on rails).

Rheingau
Here there is a mild microclimate, protected by the Taunus hills, which makes the Rheingau comparable with a small “Burgund on the Rhine”, especially as the southern slopes of the Taunus Hills go down to the majestic river in one of the most beautiful winegrowing regions in Europe: the Rheingau. It is here that the famous Riesling wines are at home. Over 80 per cent of the 3,200 hectares are covered by the queen of grapes, the Riesling, but also excellent Spätburgunder mature in the sunlight reflected by the waters of the Rhine. It is here that the river, which supplies part of the name, is almost a kilometre wide, and where for a thousand years noblemen and spiritual leaders have settled.

They created a large number of buildings, which today are monuments. Those include the Cistertian convent in Eberbach, the Ei-Bingen convent as well as palaces, manor houses, Johannisberg and Vollrad. Since 2002 the Rheingau, with its centre in the town of Rüdesheim and Lorch have been part of the Unesco World Heritage of the “Upper Middle-Rhine Valley”.
