Claude Monet once said, “My garden is a work which is slowly created with lasting love.”
Bingen on the Rhine is in the fortunate position at the junction of four tourist regions. In 2008 the town at the junction of the rivers Rhine and Nahe was holding the third state Garden Show. With the flood of visitors the surrounding regions we see a chance of gaining new guests. As the Garden Show relies mainly on day-trippers, it is the aim of the tourist industry to offer the whole range of delights and to visit the town after the Garden Show has ended.
It is for that reason that the initiative of the Garden Show 2008 in Bingen had formed a working group with all neighbouring umbrella touristic organisations.
The aim is an additional lasting offer
In search of a common main topic, with a connection to the Garden Show, the network of the working group came across the topic “Gardens and Parks”. At the beginning there was a certain amount of skepticism, because in England and France there is a lively gardening tradition and Germany needed to catch up in this field. But after extensive brain-storming this topic was seen to offer considerable potential.
The aim of the project is to offer an additional and lasting offer of the four regions around Bingen: “the romantic Rhine”, “Naheland”, “Rheingau” and “Rheinhessen”. On display are gardens typical of each region in order to give visitors an overview of the various styles and also to encourage them to visit all the regions one at a time.
