Nahe bei Bingen

The Nahe cycle path begins at the source of the river at Selbach and follows the course of the river to Neubrücke: There is the popular Bostalsee (lake) with the possibility to bathe. The paths separate in Neubrücke. The river meanders through a narrow and almost untouched valley, whereby the cycle path sweeps a curve via Birkenfeld with two variations (see the alternative route). The two variants meet again at Kronwetter and there is a short noticeable upwards route to Idar.Oberstein. This particular stretch is thus suitable for sporty cyclists.
About 10 kilometres down the Nahe, at the end of the part of the town called Weierbach, there is the cycle route “Saar-Hunsrück” and the “Nahe-Hunsrück-Mosel” path, which goes northwards. It is worth visiting Kupferberg (copper hill) Fischbach, one of the largest but abandoned copper mines in Central Europe.
Soon afterwards the town of Kirn invites you to visit. High above the town is the Kyrburg, a castle. At Martinsstein the Nahe winegrowing region begins. The cycle path leads comfortably along the vineyards on the slopes and goes through the two wine villages of Merxheim and Meddersheim. Bad Sobernheim, the spa with three Nahe baths, invite you to the Rheinland-Pfalz open-air museum, the Barfußpfad (bare-feet path) and the enchanting old part of the village at the end of the second stretch.
Just after Staudernheim the Draisinen (bogies) start the journey via Meisenheim to Lauterecken and Altglan. The route is accompanied by the “Glan-Blies” cycle path. Embedded between the mouth of the Glan and the curve on the Nahe there is the towering Disibodenberg with

its famous convent ruins and those remind us of the history of St Hildegard von Bingen. At Oberhausen on the Nahe the cycle path climbs to the former winegrowing domain of Niederhausen-Schloßböckelheim. It is only 500 metres long but steep. But a magnificent view of the Nahe Valley compensates for the physical effort!
In Niederhausen the cycle path goes over the dam at the former waterworks on the bank of the Nahe and runs along the former railway track to Rotenfels, which has the steepest cliff wall in Germany north of the Alps.
Behind is Bad Münster am Stein-Ebernburg with its historical spa house and Rheingrafenstein and its imposing Salinen (salt-water plant). The path takes you through the Salinen Valley to Bad Kreuznach. There houses on the bridge, the historical Faust-Haus or the Römerhalle (Roman Hall) invite you to pay a visit.
It is now not far to Bingen. Through a wide meadowland you glide along the Rhine to the Unesco World Heritage “Upper Middle-Rhine Valley”, which is reached via the Rhine and Nahe cycle paths.
